Working for
Family Rights Group

Our mission is to ensure that the child welfare and family justice system supports children to live safely and thrive within their family, while strengthening the family and community ties of those children who cannot live at home.

We do this through advice and advocacy, pioneering family-led solutions, championing kinship care, and amplifying family voices. We are incredibly proud of the influence we have had on the child welfare system, working to support children and families to stay safely together. We have brought the experiences of families to the forefront, changed law and practice, put kinship care on the political map, and reconnected young people in care with those who love them.

Working at Family Rights Group

Family Rights Group is committed to a continuous review of its recruitment policy and procedures in order to promote greater equality and understanding of protected characteristics, both in application and assessment processes and as an employer.

Measures we have implemented include anonymised shortlisting of all candidates, flexible arrangements in interviews, and diverse interview panels. We are also a disability confident employer, and we are working to ensure that the recruitment process for all posts is inclusive and accessible.

All appointees will want to work with families, be sensitive to their needs and committed to the aims of Family Rights Group.

Our strategy in action

Our 2025–2034 strategic plan sets out five goals to help build a more effective child welfare system that puts children and families first. These goals guide our priorities and ambitions for the next decade.

From improving access to advice and justice to championing kinship care and ensuring families help shape the system, our strategy shows how we can make a lasting difference for children and families.

Achieving these goals means working with families, young people, practitioners and partners to co-develop better approaches and influence the decisions, policies and practices that affect children’s lives.

Championing families’ rights to independent legal and practical advice and advocacy when there are concerns about a child’s welfare.
Supporting families to make safe plans for their children, with family group conferences when there are care or protection concerns.
Working towards kinship care being valued and properly supported when children cannot live at home.
Helping children and young people with care experience build loving relationships they can turn to throughout life.
Ensuring children and families with lived experience help shape the child welfare and family justice systems.
